Ballot Measure 114 creates a redundant bureaucracy that imposes enormous restrictions on Oregonians who want to legally hunt and enjoy the outdoors. It is poorly written by people who don’t understand that progress will only be made in Oregon to reduce criminal gun violence through investments in public safety, mental health programs, and gang intervention.

  • 114 messes with outdoor legal hunting.

Billed as banning ‘large capacity’ magazines, Measure 114 actually bans hunting firearms like shotguns with barrels over 21 inches. And without the required training courses and permitting system in place, firearm purchases could be effectively eliminated for years. Rifles used to hunt deer and elk won’t be available given the requirements aren’t attainable as they don’t exist.

  • 114 Messes with Conservation Funding for Oregon’s Wildlife and Habitat

Each year, Oregon’s hunters and recreational shooters contribute tens of millions of dollars to the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife for conservation efforts under the Pittman-Robertson Act, which imposes a 10-11% excise tax on all firearm purchases. Restricting firearm sales and creating an impossible permitting system will decrease critical funding for ODFW and will harm Oregon’s wildlife, habitat, and conservation efforts.

  • 114 Messes with your privacy.

Measure 114 records all your personal information from the permit application, including your photograph and a list of all firearms purchased. Information is stored indefinitely and never removed with no additional security provisions.

  • 114 messes with law enforcement.

Public safety agencies are underfunded now and Measure 114 adds unnecessary red tape and redundant background checks to an already strained system. It mandates training courses that law enforcement agencies do not have the capacity to provide with no added funding to provide them, leaving firearms owners in the lurch.
